Ryozen Kannon

Continuing along with recounting Kyoto...

Ryozen Kannon is a 24-meter tall statue of the Goddess of Mercy (her name is Kannon, get it?) honoring Japanese and Allied soldiers who died in World War II. As such, this this isn't likely to be the kind of monument that gets Koreans and Chinese in a flurry, such as when current Japan P.M. Koizumi visits the Yasukuni Shrine in Toyko.
