Tucked away from most of the tourists in the southeast corner of Kyoto, the Fushimi Inari Shrine is an excellent Shinto site with hundreds of torii leading through the mountains.
The god Inari is honored at Fushimi Inari Shrine. The kitsune (foxes) are his messengers.

Wow! Those photos are beautiful Max!
Nice, I think Memoirs of a Geisha had some scenes from Fushimi Inari Shrine, very neat looking.
I spent an entire day at Fushimi. But your pictures are far better than mine, of course.
On my way back down I took a wrong turn and ended up lost. When I found a bus stop I ended up closer to Kyoto Station than Fushimi. Oops! But it was a nice hike anyway.
Looking forward to more pics!
Great pictures, as always. Fushimi jinja is one of my favorite shrines in Japan too, and you really captured the atmosphere. fantastic!
As nice as your mug is, glad to see some new picts up!
Max, when can we expect to see of your outstanding California pictures? You da pro when it comes to photography and living in 350 square foot studio apartments!
Dad
Cool shots.
I would imagine they were a bit hard to meter - with dark shade and bright spots of sunshine.
Eh. It's the same as The Gates in Central Park. :-)
