Wolmido

Wolmido was originally an island, but due to landfill you'd never know it. On Monday we took a trip out there via bus and taxi (why drive?). I swear I'd read elsewhere that you have to take a ferry from Incheon, but the taxi took us straight there. Wolmido is basically West Incheon. Anyway, even Una didn't realize we had arrived at Wolmido, easy to think since we didn't cross any bridges or water, so we bought ferry tickets to Yeongjongdo, a small island nearby, thinking that we were actually going to Wolmido. Neither of us were paying much attention to the fact that we were already at Wolmido. A quick ferry ride later we arrived at Yeongjongdo which did not look very special. Finally we had realized that we had in fact had already been at Wolmido, so we got back on the same ferry to return. At least the ride was fun.

Back at Wolmido we had the mandatory seafood dinner, running out of the restaurant just before 5:30pm to catch the last Cosmos Cruise. The Cosmos Cruise is advertised with banners showing lots of white people dancing in Las Vegas show style costumes. At 13,000 won (~$13) I really didn't expect much--but I was surprised.

The show started with some scantly clad Russian/Ukrainian dancers. I didn't find them very impressive, but I'm tough on whitey. The second part of the show is circus-style and a lot more fun.

For the first video clip we've got the finale of the Ukrainian hula hoop girl:

Next up we've got the Chinese plate twirling acrobats. Notice the problem of the low rafters half way though the show:

After the circus show a band came out and some of the old folks got up and started dancing. They were joined and encouraged to dance by the guys and girls from the opening dance shows. I want to note the the cruise was laden with old folks, with a few odd young couples. But who else is free to go to Wolmido on a Monday afternoon? This is my favorite clip:

Wolmido was an interesting trip. I'm especially glad we were able to avoid the throngs of people that go there on the summer weekends. In fact, Wolmido was nearly a ghost town on Monday afternoon. As such, the restaurant we went too served us enough food for four or more people. The Cosmos Cruise was also fun and I recommend it to all those who visit Wolmido--just expect it to be cheesey and you'll be amused.

hahaha, the dancing! It was like being at one of my parents parties!

Now Max, really. Old folks? When you get to be that age I hope you're as light hearted and nimble as they are. Their moves were not half bad if you like making like a choo choo train. Old is a state of mind. People a lot younger often have old mind, old thinking without the old body. Your Whitey Dad
